Noise and some ototoxic drugs (fo cancer and major infections) are common causes of damage to the ear. Most people experience what is referred to as age-related hearing loss, although the primary determinant in who will experience hearing loss is heredity. Most people will experience damaging conditions in their lives, but your genetics determine how often and to what extent your body can repair itself. That said, your overall health also factors into your body’s ability to adapt and heal. For most people, hearing loss is the result of a lifetime of experiences combined with their genetic blueprint.
